Creating a restful home

These past few days I have been wondering if my home is as restful as it could be for our family. The answer was pretty easy..um, no. With four children, 3 of which are 5 and under, there's lots of noise and activity happening all the time. When my hubby gets home, I am usually in the process of making dinner, or we've already eaten and the kids have a second wind before they are ready to get to bed. The noise level is pretty much at its peak and I would like to change that. I read this post today today on Passionate Homemaking (BTW love the bread recipe there, been using it a while now!) and was inspired not only to look around and de-clutter what needs decluttering, but to search the scripture and see how my home measures up. Let's just say there is a lot of work to do. Of course, our homes here will never be perfect, and I don't expect that, but I do intend to try my best at making it close to somewhere that anyone can come at visit at anytime and I dont have to worry about toys everywhere, or dishes in the sink waiting to be washed. I was blessed and encouraged by Psalms 126:6 this morning:

He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.

Today, I will work hard at making this a reality for my husband as he comes home from his battlefield. It may not happen the way I would like to see it in my mind...but I will always remember that my actions as wife and mother set the tone of our household.

Be blessed today!

  1. Thanks for this post Amber...I'm in the process of decluttering but because of a b-day party. I'd like my house decluttered all of the time because it looks better and don't have to look at the mess. I'll try my best to at least have the kitchen pretty neat since that's the first room we walk in and dh likes to have the counters neat.
