Baking Day

I have done once a month cooking before but had yet to do a baking day, so today was the day! I had company over so I got a late start, but it still turned out to be a very fruitful day and I am happy to have planned this! I had to do some prep work the night before (last night) but it was simple enough and only needed if you want to soak your grains to get the maximum benefits from there as described here.

Here are the things I made:

~1 dozen of blender waffles. I made these and then froze them and put them into a ziploc but separated them in wax paper The recipe can be found here.

~1 loaf of white bread for hubby in the bread machine (usually make 4 at a time)

~1 dozen Whole wheat blueberry muffins(i used a new recipe and lets just say these came
out U.G.L.Y..lol...but they taste yummy!) Next time, I will make my trusty fattening blueberry streusel muffins ;)

~4 loaves of Whole Wheat bread that you can find here. (3 of these will go straight into the freezer after they are baked for later). I am excited about how these are going to turn out because I really put some muscle into kneading all that dough by hand!

Next time I do a bake day, I will have dinner in the crock pot though! LOL I was in the kitchen most of the day and by the time dinner came around I was spent. I still actually have the 4 loaves of Wheat bread on their 2nd rise and am going to stick them in the oven shortly. We had beef and broccoli tonight and it was VERY good....gonna make it again sometime....just not on a bake day ;)

Tomorrow I have laundry day (need to get caught up!) and school planning. Then later tommorow night hubby and I will have a special dinner and watch a movie.

What are you doing this weekend?

  1. Have you ever tried freezing a few loaves before the second rise?? You can!! Then, take them out in the morning and let them rise in a warm place for about eight hours. Nothing like hot and fresh bread, eh?

I too have a baking day ((today))!! Maybe I'll get some pics and post. :D

    Happy Valentine's Day!
